The recommended filter change period for the Aquasana AQ 4100 shower filter system is 10,000 gallons or every 6 months.
Step One - remove the entire filter system from the shower arm by turning the chrome swivel collar counter-clockwise. Then remove the showerhead by turning counter-clockwise.
Step Two - while holding the upper filter housing, remove the lower filter cartridge by turning counter-clockwise and dispose of the cartridge.
Step Three - unwrap the new replacement cartridge and remove the yellow "pull tab" and yellow plastic shipping cap from the top end of the cartridge.
Step Four - make sure the upper housing O-ring is in place and rub a coating of shampoo on the exposed surface of the O-ring for lubrication and to ensure a proper seal. Install the new filter cartridge by turning clockwise on the upper housing threads. Hand tighten firmly.
Step Five - make sure the white washer is in place inside the chrome swivel collar. Re-attach the filter system to the shower arm by tightening the collar clockwise.
Step Six - flush the water filter by turning on the cold water valve to allow an initial surge of discolored water to flow out of the system. This discoloration is due to carbon fines in the system. Run water until clear then turn off and on several times until the initial surge of water is clear.
Step Seven - attach the showerhead to the filter threads by turning in a clockwise direction. Your system is now ready for use.
