Outstanding Performance

90% of all particles in the air are smaller than 0.3 microns, the level at which HEPA filter efficiencies are measured. These particles stay suspended in the air, include allergens, viruses and bacteria and can be the most troublesome, especially for persons suffering from allergies and asthma. It is very important to have a high performance air cleaner that can provide clean air in your home.

Portable air cleaners use different technologies, filter components, fan systems and construction details. These variations in design have an impact on air cleaner performance and your health and safety.

Many companies use a HEPA filter and claim to have HEPA performance. These claims are based on the theoretical efficiency of the HEPA filter material and not the clean air produced by the air cleaner. Other Air cleaners use the word HEPA in their product descriptions or "HEPA-type" filters, but the filter does not meet the industry standard definition of HEPA efficiency. Unfortunately, inferior design prevents most air cleaner systems from reaching true HEPA performance.

IQAir air cleaners are individually certified to meet HEPA standards and beyond. This means that the complete air cleaner system will remove at least 99.97% of all particles as small as 0.3 microns (1/300th the size of a human hair or 0.000012 of an inch) that enter the air cleaner. In fact, IQAir systems are so efficient at removing small particles, they are guaranteed to remove 99% of all particles, even those smaller than 0.3 microns. Considering that many air contaminants such as viruses, bacteria and tobacco smoke are smaller than 0.3 microns, this is very important to providing clean air for your home. Only IQAir certifies and guarantees their air cleaner performance.

Lasting Performance

Many air cleaners start out with poor performance and rapidly decline with use. The reason is a combination of the technology used and system design.

Other HEPA type air cleaners start out with efficiency levels of 70-80%. These devices are not sealed and gasketed systems that keep the integrity of the HEPA filter performance. As the filter material gets loaded with particles, static pressure builds up behind the filter and it becomes harder for the air to move through the filter. Air will move in the path of least resistance and will flow around the HEPA filter to release incoming particles back into the room air.

Many filter systems may utilize electrostastic filters, electrically charged plates or a combination of ionization (charged particles) and charged filter media. As the trapped particles cover the charged filter media or plates, the electrostatic attractive force of the filter media or charged plates decreases because of the build-up of particles over them. As a result, charged particles escape these devices and cling to the walls of the room where they can build up or they may be inhaled by people and make it difficult to expel these charged particles from the lungs. These units need constant cleaning and maintenance and can release dangerous ozone into the air.

IQAir units, with their sealed construction and high efficient filter design, maintain their efficiency over time. In fact, testing has shown that IQAir units improve efficiency with time because as the HEPA filter traps particles, the openings within the filter media get smaller and therefore will trap smaller particles. The sealed system design of the IQAir product prevents filter bypass particle escape thereby gaining filter efficiency improvement.

How It Works

1. First a High Efficiency Pre-Filter eliminates over 90% of all particle mass. This has the benefit of prolonging the life of the motor and filters that follow. Additionally, this filter reduces maintenance costs by having the ability to be changed separately from the other filters.

2. In the HealthPro Plus unit, a Gas Phase Filter adsorbs over 200 gaseous pollutants and odors, especially volatile organic compounds (V.O.C.'s).

3. The final stage is the certified HEPA filter that traps ultra small particles including bacteria, viruses, allergens and sub-micron size dust.

Product Comparison

Graph above depicts independent laboratory tests conducted by Interbasic Resources, Inc., Michigan. Efficiency was determined for virus size particles (0.01 - 0.02 microns), bacteria size particles (0.1 - 0.3 microns), cat allergen size particles (0.3 - 3.0 microns) and tobacco size particles (0.05 - 0.5 microns). Air cleaners tested in new condition at high speed.

The accredited test laboratory, Interbasic Resources, Inc., purchased a number of room air cleaners on the open market and tested them for their efficiency. Only the IQAir HealthPro Plus was able to trap over 99% of virtually all pollution particles. The same filters are provided in the HealthPro and HealthPro Compact models and equal results are expected for these units.

Purpose

HealthPro Compact - High performance filtration for airborne particles, dust and allergens. Best for situations that do not require gaseous chemical and odor control. The HealthPro Compact features the same advanced particle filter technologies as the HealthPro and HealthPro Plus, but in a smaller housing to make it more convenient in size for small apartments and offices. This Model is not upgradeable to HealthPro Plus to include V-5 Cell gas and odor filter.

HealthPro - High performance filtration for airborne particles, dust and allergens. Best for situations that do not require gaseous chemical and odor control. The HealthPro features the same advanced particle filter technologies as the HealthPro Plus, but without the gas and odor filter. The system has a spare compartment that can be upgraded with a the V-5 Cell, wide-spectrum gas and molecular filter, to help eliminate gaseous chemicals and odors.

Certified Performance

IQAir air cleaners go through a stringent performance certification process when assembly is complete. Each unit is individually tested with a sensitive particle counter for particle capture and flow meters for air delivery rate. Each unit receives a Certificate of Performance, which shows the actual efficiency and air delivery rate of that IQAir unit. This provides the user with a guarantee that their individual IQAir unit performs as advertised.

Filter Systems

The V-5 Cell gas phase and odor control filter is a compact v-shaped filter element included in the HealthPro Plus model. It is filled with a 50/50 mixture of pelletized activated carbon and activated alumina impregnated with potassium permanganate. The result is a wide spectrum gas and odor control media that removes gaseous contaminants by both physical Adsorption and also by chemical breakdown through Chemisorption.

Adsorption - The physical process of binding gas molecules to a large surface area. I gram of activated carbon has 10,000 square feet of internal surface area to trap molecules.

Chemisorption - First, gas molecules are physically attracted onto the activated carbon and Alumina media. The trapped gas molecules are chemically broken down through a process of oxidation. Through this chemical process, no reemission of gaseous pollutants occurs.

The final filter of the IQAir HealthPro series of air cleaners is the High Efficiency Particulate Arresting (also referred to as High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter. HEPA is a standard created by the US Atomic Energy Commission for removal of radioactive particles and refers to the ability of the filter to capture 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns (0.000012 of an inch) and larger. IQAir systems have certified HEPA filters that meet the most stringent filter standard, European Norm EN 1822. True HEPA filters increase in efficiency over time and do not re-release particles back into the air.

IQAir systems use air cleaning technology that is proven in critical applications. Mechanical filters such as HEPA as well as activated carbon and chemisorption are used in hospitals, cleanrooms, laboratories and chemical plants where high performance and reliability are important. These facilities want an air cleaning system that provide no undesirable by-products such as ozone, charged particles or harmful chemicals that can be produced by other air cleaning technologies. Construction Details

• Quiet design through isolated high efficiency motor and fan assembly located between noise absorbing filters. Eight motor vibration dampers and double wall housing construction also contribute to unit quietness.
• The motor is located before the final HEPA filter in the air stream. This ensures all particles emitted by the motor will also be captured by the air cleaner and not released into the air.
• EvenFlow 320° diffuser returns cleaned air to the room without causing uncomfortable air drafts.
• Detachable power cord and 4 roller caster allow for easy mobility of the IQAir unit when movement is desired.
• Computer designed super efficient fan is the most powerful in its class. The fan is individually balanced and incorporates steel ball bearings for lasting durability and quietness.
• IQAir systems feature a patented triple sealing technology. First, a unique process ensures that the filter media is 100% sealed in the filter frame. Second, a patented 3D UltraSeal ensures perfect sealing between the filter frame and the unit housing by applying sealing pressure on three sides. Lastly, individual seals on each housing module ensure an air tight housing.

Controls

• Intelligent Filter Life Monitor - Uses information on time period the unit is on, fan speed, pollution load and air quality settings to predict the replacement time for filters. Remaining filter life can be displayed for each filter. Filter status LED lights change color from green to orange to red to signal filter replacement.
• Advanced Fan Control - Numerous capacitors regulate fan speed by regulating motor voltage. This provides maximum energy efficiency at all six fan speeds and no humming noise.
• Integrated Timer - Each IQAir unit can be programmed to run automatically. Set the unit to run and shut off when desired by time of day and day of the week. A countdown timer of 1-72 hours allows the unit to run for a fixed period before switching off.
• Filter Load Index - Allows the user to view and program the fine dust, coarse dust and gaseous (on HealthPro Plus model) pollution indices according to their unique environment, which the unit uses to calculate the load on the filter elements and the estimated filter life.
• Remote Control - change fan speeds, activate the timer and turn the unit on/off from up to 30 ft. away.

Maintenance

IQAir systems have no maintenance requirements other than filter replacement. No tools are required for filter changes due to the modular design. The filter change process is as follows:

1. Open Locking Arms by pushing outward one side at a time.

2. Pull both locking arms outward evenly. This raises the top modules from the lower prefilter module.

3. Remove the top diffuser to access the HEPA filter and gas phase filter (on HealthPro Plus models). To remove the prefilter, slide housing out and tilt up.

Independent filter stages allow you to replace each filter individually as needed. Each stage has a different expected filter life, so this prevents the purchase of unnecessary filters, allows maximum performance and keeps maintenance costs as low as possible.

Product Recognition

1. The American Lung Association has selected IQAir to partner in a joint educational campaign to raise awareness on indoor air quality.
