The IQAir filter system begins with the PreMax pre-filter, which is a high efficiency, high capacity pleated element that retains 90% of all dust mass entering the air cleaner. This prolongs the life of the motor that follows this filter as well as extending the useful life and performance of the gasphase and HEPA filters.
The V-5 Cell gas phase and odor control filter is a compact v-shaped filter element included in the HealthPro Plus model. It is filled with a 50/50 mixture of pelletized activated carbon and activated alumina impregnated with potassium permanganate. The result is a wide spectrum gas and odor control media that removes gaseous contaminants by both physical Adsorption and also by chemical breakdown through Chemisorption.
Adsorption - The physical process of binding gas molecules to a large surface area. I gram of activated carbon has 10,000 square feet of internal surface area to trap molecules.
Chemisorption - First, gas molecules are physically attracted onto the activated carbon and Alumina media. The trapped gas molecules are chemically broken down through a process of oxidation. Through this chemical process, no reemission of gaseous pollutants occurs.
The final filter of the IQAir HealthPro series of air cleaners is the High Efficiency Particulate Arresting (also referred to as High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter. HEPA is a standard created by the US Atomic Energy Commission for removal of radioactive particles and refers to the ability of the filter to capture 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns (0.000012 of an inch) and larger. IQAir systems have certified HEPA filters that meet the most stringent filter standard, European Norm EN 1822. True HEPA filters increase in efficiency over time and do not re-release particles back into the air.

V-5 Gas and Odor Filter: (HealthPro Plus only): V-shaped design with 5 lbs. of 50/50 mixture of activated carbon pellets and alumina impregnated with potassium permanganate.
Filter Life: V-5 Gas and Odor Filter - 1 to 2 years.
HyperHEPA Filter: High capacity mini pleat design with solvent free separators. 40 sf. filter area. Uses wet laid micro-glass fibers. Certified to the most stringent filter standard, European Norm EN 1822. Meets class H13, 99.95% efficient at 0.16 microns at 112 cfm air flow and Class H12, 99.5% efficient at 0.22 microns at 112 to 280 cfm air flow. HyperHEPA filter is encased in CFC-free expanded high density polystyrene.
