How It Works
This two stage cartridge shower water filter system installs in minutes to a standard shower arm assembly. Removes Free Chlorine from the water through an electrochemical reaction with the KDF Copper and Zinc alloys that turns the the element Chlorine into a harmless Chloride compound that flushes out the filter.
Shower Filter Cartridge (shown clear for illustration only)
Quality Construction - brass threaded inserts are molded into the filter housing to provide a durable and strong connection that will last.
Stage One - utilizes 15 ounces of granular Zinc and Copper KDF-55 media to remove Chlorine and balance water pH.
Stage Two - includes 1 ounce of Crystalline Quartz (Silicon Dioxide), a safe and non-toxic compound, to help with lathering of soaps and shampoos while showering.
Wonder Washer Installation
Step One - remove the plastic shipping plug from the inlet of the filter system.
Step Two - remove your existing showerhead.
Step Three - attach the assembled filter system to the water supply shower arm. Thread the housing onto the shower arm threads by turning clockwise until hand tight. The Rainshow'r CQ 1000 features the "Wonder Washer" which replaces the standard thin flat washer and sediment screen seen on many shower filters. The Wonder Washer is a beveled rubberized compound with a custom machined brass insert that eliminates the need for pipe thread tape and provides a water-tight leak-free seal. The unique brass insert stabilizes the beveled washer making it impossible to collapse or be cut by thin walled shower arms.
Step Four - turn on the water to allow water to flow through the system for 30 to 60 seconds before the first use.
Step Five - if your model of the CQ 1000 does not have a Rainshow'r showerhead, attach any high quality showerhead or handheld shower unit to the outlet threads of the filter housing. Use only low flow devices that are certified at a water flow rate of 2.5 gpm or less at 80 psi water pressure.
The recommended filter change period for the Rainshow'r CQ 1000 shower filter system is 25,000 gallons or every 6 - 7 months.
Step One - remove the shower filter from the shower arm by turning counter-clockwise and unscrew the cap from the filter body.
Step Two - take out the used filter cartridge, re-position the rubber "O" rings if they become dislodged. Make sure the O rings and grooves are clean and free of debris that could cause leaks. Dispose of the cartridge or recycle the cartridge by sending to: Good Earth Recyclers, P.O. Box 2167, San Gabriel, CA. 91778-2167.
Step Three - place new filter cartridge into housing body and screw the top back into filter body. Hand tighten only.
Step Four - reconnect filter unit to shower arm by turning in the clockwise direction. Turn water on to allow water to flow through the system for 30 to 60 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the filtering media?
A. KDF 55, crystalline quartz and special polyester sediment trapping material.
Q. How does KDF work in removing chlorine?
A. As chlorinated water flows through the unit, the dissimilar metals in KDF, Copper and Zinc, create a galvanic or electrolytic reaction, which causes the two chlorine ions to combine with a Zinc ion to form a harmless chloride. KDF does not hold the chlorine; it changes chlorine from an element into a harmless compound.
Q. How much KDF is in the filter?
A. There are 15 ounces of KDF Media.
Q. What is the advantage of Crystalline Quartz?
A. Our specially washed and sun dried Quartz crystals help to "energize" the water by reducing the water's surface tension. This allows for an increase in the sudsing and lathering of soaps and shampoos. The water has a "lighter" feel, similar to the feeling of softened water.
Q. Are any ingredients harmful or toxic?
A. No. KDF is commonly used in drinking water and water treatment systems. The virgin Crystalline Quartz is washed and sun-cured. Our polyester material is water industry approved and used in drinking water filters.
Q. How much chlorine will the filter remove?
A. The CQ-1000 will typically remove more than 90% of the Free Chlorine. Reduction levels of 95% or above are not uncommon, but no chlorine reduction shower filter can remove consistently at 95% because of temperature and water flow variations.
Q. Do you have to back flush the filter?
A. No. The CQ-1000's Poly-flow material and dispersal fins have been designed to eliminate the need for back flushing.
Q. How do you address water quality?
A. The cleaner your water the longer and more efficient the filter will be. If heavy levels of sediment and particulate matter are present in the water, the KDF media can become clogged making it more difficult to create the electrolytic reaction required for dechlorination. Some sediment and turbidity will inevitably enter the filter, however the filter is specially designed to minimize the effects with it's exclusive sediment trapping screen located in the inlet and the Poly-flow material, both trap large particulate matters as it enters the filter.
Q. Will the CQ1000 remove lead or other heavy metals?
A. There is no conclusive data to date that KDF can remove lead or other metals when used in shower filters. While KDF has been proven to remove lead and other heavy metals under specific conditions, those conditions are very different from what is present in shower filters. No tests have yet been done on high flow rate in short-bodied filters such as a 2 to 3 inch shower filter.
Q. How long will the CQ1000 last and how many gallons will it filter?
A. The ability of any KDF shower filter to reduce Chlorine is a function of the quality of the water (i.e. sediment and turbidity levels). As a result, it is difficult to measure precisely in gallons of water. KDF will dechlorinate longer in clean water than in murky water. While it is difficult to measure precisely we can estimate average usefulness. We expect that the CQ1000 filter cartridge will have an effective life of six to nine months for a family of four, or an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 gallons of usage. The CQ-1000 body should last for several years with proper care.
Q. How many gallons will the CQ1000 filter per minute?
A. This depends on the shower head attached. The CQ1000 has been designed and engineered to work most effectively with the high quality low-flow shower heads that conform to the required 2.5 gallons per minute flow rate specified by the U.S. Energy Policy Act of 1992. If flow rates exceed 2.5 gpm the contact time required for maximum chlorine conversion will be reduced. For this reason, we recommend only high quality, low flow shower heads for any shower filter application.
Q. What shower heads does the CQ1000 come with?
A. We believe strongly that a good quality shower head will maximize the filtering process, this is why the shower head is an integral part of our filter design. The CQ1000 comes standard with the high quality chrome plated fixed action designer shower head by Whedon. The CQ1000 is also available with a massage action head by Amcor, or without a shower head. Hand held units are available with either a fixed action or massage action spray.
Q. Can I use my own shower head with the CQ1000?
A. Yes, but only a good quality, low flow shower head that has been purchased since 1995. This guarantees conformity to the U. S. Energy Policy Act and that you have a water delivery at no more than 2.5 gpm at 80 PSI. Hand held units may also be attached to the filter.
Q. Is the CQ1000 easy to install?
A. Yes, simply screw the filter inlet onto your existing shower arm. It does not require the use of plumber's tape for leak sealing. Be careful not to over tighten, this may cause the housing to crack.
Q. Is the CQ1000 filter cartridge easy to replace?
A. Yes, simply unscrew the body cap, pull out the existing filter cartridge, check for proper seating of 'O' rings and pop in the replacement cartridge.
Q. What is the recycling policy?
A. Mail the used filter cartridge prepaid to the address on the box. There is no discount on new filters when one has been returned for recycling.
