Benefits of Vapor Steam Cleaning

Chemical Free Cleaning

Since the only ingredient needed to use a steam cleaner is water, cleaning your home has never been more environmentally friendly. Not only do you eliminate chemical residues in your home making it a safer place (especially for children and pets that practically live on the floor) but you also help the environment by reducing the amount of chemicals that get washed down the drain and into our water supply. Wouldn't you rather place your sandwich on a countertop cleaned with steam than a countertop cleaned with chemical cleaners that can leave toxic residues on the surface?

Cleaning Efficiency

While you'll still need to put in the effort, the results after using a steam cleaner surpass the conventional method of solvent and sponge. Since steam deodorizes and sanitizes with heat and moisture, debris is removed thoroughly and quickly, leaving a chemical-free sparkle and making your job easier. From bathrooms to basements, large surface areas like tile floors and countertops, carpeting, upholstery and even baked-on grills, there are attachments for every area of the house. You'll end up cleaning things you've avoided for ages.

Save Money

Using a vapor steam cleaner will allow you to save money on a variety of cleaning products that are promoted through the media such as glass cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, all purpose cleaners, degreasers, floor polish, oven cleaner, tile grout cleaner, etc. You will not need to wear sweaty rubber gloves and a gas mask to do your household cleaning. Owning a vapor steam cleaner means owning one exceptional cleaning product for many of your cleaning needs.

Healthier Home Environment

Bacteria, viruses, mold and mildew may not be detectable, but they are potentially some of the most hazardous pathogens that can result in irritations, allergies and infections. When a steam cleaner is used, the tiny hot vapor molecules penetrate the pores of a surface and as they come in contact with the cool surface of the pores, they expand and force all dirt, debris and bacteria to the surface. Vapor molecules are so hot, they are not only able to extract pathogens like E. Coli and Salmonella from surface pores, but also kill them. Using a vapor steam cleaner regularly will help remove microscopic Dust Mites and their waste, which are one of the most common household Allergens. Use vapor steam on your carpets, mattresses, pillows and upholstered furniture, children's toys and stuffed animals, dog beds (fleas), bird cages and more to reduce the prevalence of a variety of Biological pollutants in the home. Using a steam cleaner is a great way to keep everyone in your home healthy. It is also better for the environment by preventing the disposal of chemical cleaners in landfills or chemicals being washed down the drain that can end up in our waterways and ecosystem. You air will be healthier too, without the volatile organic compounds that are released from chemical cleaners that can cause eye, nose and lung irritation.

How It Works

Water is heated in the boiling tank within the vapor steam cleaner. As water boils, it turns from a liquid to a gas (steam) and the gas expands. This gas can not escape the boiler chamber, so the expanding gas builds up pressure inside the tank. Due to the laws of physics, as the temperature of the steam increases, the pressure will also increase allowing steam temperatures above the boiling point of water to be achievable. The higher the temperature of the gas the greater the pressure created in the boiling chamber. The steam vapor produced by the vapor steam cleaner contains about 5% moisture, which is very dry. This is why surfaces cleaned with vapor steam dry quickly. You can clean, deodorize and sanitize fabrics such as carpets, mattresses and pillows as well as a variety of other surfaces without leaving materials water saturated.

Vapor Steam Cleaning differs significantly from common carpet cleaners that claim to "Steam Clean", but are actually hot water extractors. These carpet cleaners utilize lower temperature hot water along with chemical detergents that saturate fabrics and leave them water soaked and require a significant amount of time to dry. Fabrics that remain wet for long periods can contribute to bacteria, mold and mildew growth and the proliferation of other allergens such as Dust Mites.

When pressurized high temperature steam vapor is forced onto a surface, the very small vapor molecules are able to penetrate the pores. The vapor molecules, when coming into contact with the cool surface of the pores, quickly and powerfully expand and force out all dirt, grease, detergents, bacteria and basically any particles that don't naturally belong on the surface. The added bonus is the heat of the vapor molecules, which kills bacteria, viruses and other biological pollutants such as molds, fleas, flea eggs and dust mites. The result is a surface that is sanitized, deodorized and hypoallergenic. This is done with ordinary tap water and without costly toxic cleaning products that pollute the indoor air and the environment. Vapor Steam Cleaning Systems provide superior and economical cleaning suitable for families that want a healthier home environment and those individuals that suffer from allergies and chemical sensitivities.

The Reliable Vapor Steam Cleaner can use regular tap water or demineralized water. If regular tap water is used, the formation of scale may build up more frequently depending on your water quality. Higher use and higher water hardness will require more frequent descaling. Regular rinsing of the boiler tank will help remove mineral deposits between uses. Once or twice a year or when a reduction in steam capacity is noticed, perform a descaling operation as follows:

    • After all pressure has been released from the steam cleaner and the unit has cooled, open the safety fill cap and remove any residual water by turning unit downwards.
    • Mix a water/vinegar solution of 75% water and 25% pure white wine vinegar.
    • Fill the boiler with the vinegar solution and turn on the main power switch. Leave the safety fill cap off.
    • Let the vinegar solution come to a boil. Shut unit off and let cool for 15 - 20 minutes.
    • Rinse the boiler 2-3 times with clean tap water.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between a single tank, and a double tank system?

A: The single tank refers to a steam cleaner with one steam tank.  When the steam from the tank has been used up, a light will go on indicating that there is no more water left.  You then have to release the remaining steam from the tank, unscrew the fill cap, and refill the unit with warm water before you begin to use again.

A double tank system uses two containers; one for the water and one for the steam. When more water is required for the steam tank, a signal is sent to a pump, which when activated sends more water to the steam tank. Eventually the water tank will run out of water as well, and you can fill this by simply removing the cap and refilling the water container. With the double tank system, there is no need to release the remaining steam from the steam tank, nor do you have to remove a pressurized fill cap. The Reliable™ double tank system is called CSS™ for continuous steam system.

Q: Are all double tank systems created the same?

A: No. Most double tank systems have a very basic way of sensing when the steam tank requires more water. Because of this, when more water is required, conventional double tank steam cleaners send a large quantity of cool water into the steam tank. This effectively cools the steam down, reducing the steam pressure and the effectiveness of the steam cleaner.

Reliable™ steam cleaners equipped with CSS™ (continuous steam system) control the temperature of the steam tank with an electronic probe and an electronic circuit board. The electronic probe senses the need for more water much quicker than conventional systems. Because it is more sensitive, it allows for the pump to pump-in more frequent, but smaller amounts of water into the steam tank when it is required. And since the cool water going into the steam tank is done in smaller amounts, the steam pressure drop is considerably smaller.

Q: How dry can I get the steam?  I want very dry steam for things like ceramic tiles.

A: The steam from the "E" series steam cleaners is as dry as you need. If the steam was so dry that there was no moisture in it, the steamer would not do the job. The "E" series steam cleaners produce vapor steam up to 58 pounds/square inch. This produces very hot steam, capable of cleaning the toughest cleaning assignments.

Q:  Can I use one of your steam cleaners to steam clean my carpet?

A:  While the "E" series steam cleaners are great for a multitude of tasks, they are not designed to replace conventional carpet cleaners. You can use our steam cleaners for cleaning small areas that have been stained or soiled, but you will clean a large carpeted surface more effectively with other tools.

Q:  Do I need to wait for the unit to cool down before I refill it?

A:  No, once the steam has been removed from the tank (E3) unscrew the fill cap, fill the tank with warm or hot water, and screw in the fill cap. The E5 Model can be refilled at any time. Wait for the ready light to light up and you can use it again.

Q:  Does steam escape from where the accessories join, and can you get burned?

A:  The parts do attach together, but there are seals that create a 100% leak proof connection, so there is no chance that steam will escape, and therefore no chance that you will get burned. Reliable™ vapor steam cleaners are ETL certified for safe operation.
