Food Dehydrator Comparison

Round Dehydrator

In a typical round dehydrator, normal drips fall on the electrical element beneath the food making the element difficult to clean. The more trays that are added, the further the food is away  from heat, which increases drying time and requiring tray rotation.  These units may not have a thermostat or fan. Air enters the bottom and is warmed by the heating element. As the air rises through the trays it cools and becomes saturated with moisture.  This moisture can condense on the top lid and drip on the food.  Temperature from bottom to top can vary as much as 50º! Fruit roll-ups, jerky's and other foods are difficult to dry because the foods don't allow air to pass through them from below. This design requires higher heat to get temperatures elevated at the top trays. This results in foods which may crust-up the outside before fully dry (especially at the lower trays) and greater operating costs due to the higher energy consumption.

Excalibur Paralexx Food Drying System

The fan, heating element and adjustable thermostat are mounted in the rear. Cool air is drawn in the back, heated up and distributed evenly across each tray. Warm air removes moisture from foods and is pushed out the front of the machine. The drying air flows across all foods and there is no moisture condensation to drip on foods. Clean-up is easy, there are no electrical parts on the bottom to clean from drips.
