Electricity Monitor Meters

Knowing how much energy your appliances use and how much they cost to operate will help to make informed decisions on appliance use and replacement purchases. Electricity monitor meters help you understand how you use energy and where the most energy use comes from. Please review our information on Energy in our Education Center for more general information on responsible energy use. For information on Energy Efficient Appliances, visit the EPA Energy Star website.

Benefits of Using an Electricity Monitor

  • Promotes Energy Conservation - consumers have the ability to measure current energy use of their large older appliances and compare them to new energy efficient appliances. This will help you to determine if you can save money in energy costs each year that could pay for the new appliance over it's lifetime.

  • Promotes Environmental Responsibility - when you save energy, you also reduce the amount of pollutants created to produce that energy. Reducing pollutants will reduce the greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change and smog.

  • Save Money - Once you measure the major energy users in your home, you can begin to manage their use. Many appliances and electrical devices such as televisions, continue to use electricity when turned off. These are called "Phantom Loads" because the user thinks the device is completely off, when in fact they are still using energy. This equipment is actually in a stand-by mode so they can turn on instantly when needed. Electricity meters will allow you to find these Phantom Loads as well as target the major energy users to reduce their energy consumption through controls and simple management steps.
