Glossary
Waterlift - this is a measure of vacuum suction. It is a
standardized measurement in which the vacuum is connected to a
U-shaped tube filled with water. The vacuum is attached to one
side of the tube and is turned on. The motor suction creates a
vacuum in the tube and causes the water to raise in the tube.
The height the water will raise in the tube is measured and is
referred to as "waterlift". For example, a 100 inch waterlift
means the the vacuum motor was able to raise the column of water
in the tube 100 inches.
Air Flow - this is a measure of the volume of air that is
moving through the vacuum. The air volume is measured in cubic
feet of air per minute. This is called a "CFM" rating. For
example, a rating of 150 CFM means that 150 cubic feet of air is
passing through the vacuum per minute.
Important
Considerations
There
are many factors factors that contribute to a vacuum cleaner's
cleaning performance.
-
Vacuum Suction (waterlift)
and Air Flow (cfm) - Good suction is the
power needed to pull in the dirt and debris into the vacuum.
Good air flow is needed to carry the dirt and debris into
the dust bag. A vacuum with high suction and poor air flow
with not provide good cleaning performance. Additionally, a
vacuum will good air flow and poor suction will also perform
poorly. Therefore, a vacuum must have booth good suction and
good air flow characteristics.
-
Operating Tools -
Properly designed, used and maintained tools will improve
cleaning performance. For example, power heads have roller
brushes that rotate and agitate floor materials and should
operate at the correct height. If they are too low, there is
not enough carpet agitation due to the material resistance
and there may be inadequate air flow due to the low opening
between the carpet and tool. Too high a setting and there
will not be a deep enough fiber agitation to remove deeper
dirt and debris.
-
Sealed System Performance
- A vacuum can have great tools, suction and air flow, but
if it it has poor filtration capability or leaks particles
back into the home rather than retain them in the vacuum
cleaner, then overall, it is a poor performer. Not only does
a leaky vacuum cleaner make your house dirtier and dustier,
but you will be exposed to potential allergen triggers that
can exasperate a family's allergy and asthma suffering.
SEBO vacuums are designed as a system. They have taken into
consideration all the factors of suction, air flow, tool design
and provide a certified and tested sealed system to ensure
optimum cleaning performance. This is what makes them the
perfect choice for Asthma and Allergy sufferers as well as
anyone that wants a high quality, reasonably priced vacuum
cleaner that will continue perform for years.
